When we started pre-planning on the “Is It Raining” music video, it was obvious that it needed to rain in the video. Of course, we couldn’t just hope it would rain, so we had to create our own weather. The first idea was to involve the fire department and see if they could blast us with some water, but that didn’t pan out. So the backup plan was to do a Google search for plans on building a homemade rain machine. The search turned up an interesting result that I really wasn’t convinced would actually work. The plans called for some lumber, zip ties, and a hose, which are all pretty cheap so I figured we could at least try it out. (Click Here for the original plans).
Essentially its just a hose coiled around a big wooden X with holes drilled into the hose ever 6 inches or so. Make sure the holes are pointing UP and sure enough it looks like rain! We hung our “rain machine” about 10 feet about the set to give the water enough time to get some good momentum before hitting the ground. To see how well it turned out, check out these pictures and watch the music video below.
